Welcome to our newsletter!  I hope you hang on with me as I learn to navigate this new system.  .

I thought this first session I might start with telling you why I joined Rotary.   I moved back to Maine 2 years ago and wanted to find ways to become connected.  I believe Tom Violette met me and immediately asked me to be his guest at Rotary.  The rest is history!

My first meeting reminded me when I  first became aware of Rotary.  I was in middle school and was asked to speak at a Rotary. I can't recall why I was asked, but I do remember how terrified I was as I read through my speech with my hands shaking aggressively as I held tightly to my notes.  I remember looking up and seeing the smiles of "older" leaders reassuring me that I could do it.  From that moment,  I knew I wanted to be a part of something where I could give someone else that same support.  I'm thankful to have chosen this group.  (We do have the best breakfast in town!)  I have been assimilated into the whole and truly feel like I belong. Through listening to the many speakers, I connected with a non profit.  I now volunteer there routinely, as their mission really spoke to my heart.   Almost a year after joining Rotary, I am thankful to have a  way to give back to the club, in the form of this newsletter.   I will be asking you to share with your stories so we can get to know you more as we continue to grow as a group.  -Karen Shorey
